Ways to Practice (Standing back full twist)

① Prepare to jump

standing back full prepare to jump

Preparing for jump in a standing back full is the same as a standing back tuck until your upper body become vertical to the ground.
(cf. Tutorial of Standing Back Flip)

You should start twisting at the same time as you starts leaning back.
Twist only your upper body, your lower body should be facing forward(the same as back tuck).
The gap between your twisted upper body and your untwisted lower body initiates twisting in the air.
If you also twist your lower body, you cannot twist well and jump well neither.
Or, you may not need the notion of “twist”.
Like Arabian front flip, only to turn around and do a front flip with a half twist may be enough.
You should swing your arms over your head.
Don’t tilt your swing of arms.

Also, if you cannot help moving your feet to turn around, you should intend to look at your heels behind your back.
It is because if you move your heels, you cannot see your heels behind your back.

② Take off

At the moment of taking off, your upper body should be facing in 45° twisted direction.
And your lower body should not be twisted and facing forward.
If you take off the ground with this form and position, you can twist in the air automatically.

③ In the air

standing back full in the air

In the air, it is difficult to add twist with tuck form and impossible to add rotation.
However, if you take off properly, you don’t need to add twist.
The only you have to do in the air is to keep your form small to increase your rotation speed.
You should tuck without using arms and put your arms on your chest or belly.
Don’t change your form, it cause loss of rotation energy.

You already have gotten enough twist energy from the ground, so you can twist in the air automatically.
After you get used to do this skill, you should keep watching the ground after takeoff.

④ Prepare for landing

After you feel it going to be rotated and twisted enough, you should prepare to land.
Don’t try to force a landing for safety if you are a beginner and cannot rotate enough.
For preparing for landing, Make your form bigger and loosen your muscles.
It decrease your rotation speed and twist speed so that you can land easily.
Doing that, look at the ground.

⑤ Landing

Look at the ground and calculate your landing.
Bend your knees slightly in order  to prevent injury in case you miss the landing.
After your feet touch the ground, you should bend your knees and absorb an impact of landing.
To stick your landing, you should utilize your arms properly.
(cf. How to stick your landing)
