There are two kinds of Round off.
One is Round off (for a Back Handspring) and the other is Round off (for flips directly).

Tutorial of Round off(for a Back Handspring)

 

1 – What is good Round off for a Back Handspring? “Rotating much and has rotated already much” –

Good Round off for a Back Handspring has good rotation, because rotation of round off makes rotation of a Back Handspring after that.
In addition, when your feet reach the ground, your body should have rotated much and started leaning backward(your torso and shins are vertical to the ground).

It is because after that you are to do a Back Handspring, you should jump backward with a back handspring.

Therefore, you should go backward, not upward.
“Rotating much and has rotated already much” is required.

2 – What we should do for “rotating much” –

We can increase rotation of Round off by 3 ways.

1. Faster Run-up

to run faster makes your round off more rotating

To utilize your run-up, you should jump more forward before a round off.

2. Swing up your legs

3. Swing down legs while your hands are on the ground

These two ways are based on the same principle.
Swinging your body while you’re on the ground initiates rotation.

4. Pushing the ground by arms without bending and extending

round off push the ground automatically with extended arms

Like Tsukahara on vault, you can get additional rotation(mentioned at the last of the next section).
(cf. Slightly arch your back and jump)

 

3 – What we should do for “has rotated much” –

If you have good rotation with your round off, you must have rotated much by the time your feet reach the ground.
However, in most cases, you should have rotated more(rotation is not enough).
How are we able to have rotated more with the same rotation.

Solution 1 Make time for rotation longer

If the time to rotate is longer, the round off can more rotate.
Then, how to make the time to rotate longer?
The solution is to make your round off higher.
It is the same as a flip.
If your round off is higher, your feet reach the ground later.
To make your round off higher, you should make your hands closer and extend your shoulders and arms like a handstand.
Also, if you do that, you can get additional rotation by pushing the ground with your right arm automatically like Tsukahara on vault.
Therefore, you shouldn’t bend your right arm.

Solution 2 Make your body smaller in the air

If your body is smaller, you rotate faster.
Therefore, you can get “has rotated much”.

4 – Summary –

To be a good Round off for a Back Handspring, “Rotating much and has rotated already much” is required.
And for that, you should swing your legs properly and make it higher.
