Ways to Practice(Dive roll full twist)

1. Former half twist onto mattress

First, to get used to initiate twisting in the air, try a half twist.
And you should fall onto mattress on your back.
In the same way as dive roll full twist, jump straight.
And in the air, put your twist side’s arm(if you are left twister, your left arm) and down the other arm.
The form in which you put your one arm up and down the other arm initiates twisting.
Therefore, you can twist automatically.
It is “Tilt” method of initiating twisting.
If your body is not straight, you cannot twist smoothly, keep your body straight.

2. Latter half twist -learn Arabian front dive roll-

Twisting method of an Arabian front flip is “Torque”, but air sense is similar to the former half twist of dive roll full.

Step 1. Jump and turn back and do a dive roll(front flip)

Jump with a half twist and land(looking at the ground).
And do a dive roll as soon as possible.
If you can, land and punch directly to a dive roll and do a front flip instead of a dive roll.

Step 2. Turn back and do a dive roll

Turn back and look at the ground and do a dive roll.

Note that you shouldn’t move your feet; your feet are fixed to the ground and twist your only your upper body.

 

3. Combine former half twist and latter half twist

After you learn former half twist and latter half twist, combine those.
Actually, those are not combined, because once you put your one arm up, twisting begins and twist will continue as long as you keep your form.
Therefore, to combine former and latter twist means to combine those in your mind, it is about your air sense.
Like 1, do a dive roll with twist onto mattress.
However, for now, you should twist more, so make mattress thinner.

After you get used to do that, make mattress more thinner and do a dive roll with 3/4 twist.
And after you twist 3/4, look at the ground.
The air sense of the latter 1/4 twist is similar to one of an Arabian front.

Also, you can learn air sense of twisting with trampoline.
You should do a full turn to front drop.

Step 1. A half turn to back drop

Lean forward and do a front drop with your arms down in the air.

Next, lean forward and when you fall down, put your twist side’s arm up(down the other) and then you’ll twist automatically.
After you twist a half, loose your muscles to stop twisting and do a back drop.

Step 2. Full turn to front drop

This is almost the same as step 1 but you should start twisting(= put your one arm up) earlier.
Just after starting falling down, put your one arm up.

And you need to put more strength to your muscles and keep your body more straight than step 1.
It is because those contribute to twisting.

This full turn to front drop is very similar to dive roll full in terms of air sense and structure of skill.
In those, some part of rotation is changed into twisting by that rising arm, this is “Tilt” method of twisting.
